About the event

We open our season asking the question: What makes an American sound? Join the Mystic Chamber Music Series on September 29th at 5:30 pm at The Noank Baptist Church for “America at 250,” a concert dedicated to music written on American Soil. In 1893, Dvořák crossed an ocean and heard something extraordinary in the folk songs of the Americans; he labeled this the foundation for truly American music. Florence Price built on that foundation in Arkansas and spent her life proving him right, fighting for her music to be heard. Between them, Amy Beach was a New England composer who mastered every form she touched and was the first American woman to have her symphony performed by a major symphony. Join us for an evening built on a question Dvořák asked, and the composers who spent a lifetime answering it.

Featuring works by Dvořák, Beach, and Florence Price.
