About the event

Music is inherited. Not just handed down, but taught, bow arm to bow arm, phrase by phrase, one player passing something forward that words alone can not carry. On January 30th at 5:30 PM — The Mystic Chamber Music Series Presents: "A People's History of the Cello". We will trace the history of the cello in a program built on the teachers and students who shaped what the cello could do, and the music each of them made their own. Come hear how one instrument's history is really a history of people and how the sound in this room tonight has been passing hands for over a century.

This program traces the lineage of Casals, Piatigorsky, Rose, Silva, Du Pré, and Ma.

Featuring works by Bach, Cassadó, Debussy's, Beethoven, Brahms, and Barber.
